Trypophobia refers to the triggering of a fear response upon seeing a cluster of small holes, dots, circles, or bumps.


Trypa is Greek for "hole"

 

Some triggers include:

(1) insect eyes

(2) coral

(3) honeycomb

(4) paint splatter

(5) polka dots

 

Some triggers may be drug-induced.

 

The condition is considered significant if:

(1) it triggers intense fear or anxiety

(2) it is disabling
