Description

Sometimes paraffin sections will stick to the block while they are being cut on the microtome. To solve the problem requires identifying and correcting the cause.

Causes of sections sticking to the block:

(1) debris on the block and/or blade edge

(2) development of static electricity on the ribbon or blade

(3) clearance angle on the microtome that is insufficient

Solutions:

(1) Make sure that the blade is clean and free of debris.

(2) Trim the edges of the block, making sure that they are free of debris.

(3) Humidify the air around the microtome and apply products for control of static electricity.

(4) Increase the clearance angle on the microtome.
