Description

A refrigerator may become too warm or too cold for a number of reasons. Failure to maintain the designated temperature range can result in deterioration in reagents and damage to specimens.


 

Causes for a refrigerator being too warm:

(1) The door is not closed properly or has a defective seal.

(2) Opening the door too often, especially during warm weather.

(3) There is insufficient refrigerant.

(4) The compressor is malfunctioning (motor failure, dust, other).

(5) The heat exchanger is dirty or blocked.

(6) There has been a loss of electricity (power failure, cord unplugged, cord or plug damaged.)

(7) Excessive icing.

(8) Temperature setting reset higher.

(9) Malfunctioning temperature sensor.

 

Causes for a refrigerator being too cold:

(1) Temperature setting reset lower.

(2) Malfunctioning temperature sensor.

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) Incorrect temperature reading due to malfunctioning temperature sensor.
