Description

Haniffa et al reported the TropICS (Tropical Intensive Care Score) for evaluating a critically-ill patient in a resource-limited care setting. The authors are from Castle Street Hospital for Women (Sri Lanka) and Mahidol University (Thailand).

Patient selection: critically-ill patient in a resource-poor setting

Parameters:

(1) emergency surgery

(2) hemoglobin in g/dL, over range from 4 to 16

(3) serum BUN in mg/dL, over range from 10 to 610

(4) Glasgow Coma Score (GCS, from 3 to 15)

(5) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg, over range from 30 to 260

(6) respiratory rate in breaths per minute, over range from 4 to 40

points for hemoglobin in g/dL =

= 4 - (0.25 * (hemoglobin))

points for serum BUN in mg/dL =

= (0.016442 * (score)) + 0.019072

points for Glasgow coma score =

= 6 - (0.4 * (GCS))
