Description

Certain condition can trigger or worsen the signs and symptoms of the Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Recognizing and avoiding these triggers can be helpful in managing the patient.


 

Triggers for orthostatic intolerance in a patient with POTS:

(1) excessive heat

(2) exertion

(3) excitement

(4) large meals

(5) dehydration or volume depletion

(6) excessive alcohol

(7) prolonged standing

(8) menses (in women)

(9) medications
