Trichosporon species can infect the central nervous system (CNS), typically as an opportunistic infection.
Trichosporon infections may take the form of:
(1) meningitis
(2) ventriculitis
(3) brain abscess/fungus ball
Risk factors:
(1) immunodeficiency or immunosuppression including corticosteroid therapy
(2) cerebrospinal fistula
(3) disseminated Trichosporon infection
Clinical features:
(1) headache
(2) vomiting
(3) other neurologic symptoms
