Description

A simple mnemonic can be used to remember the common causes of treatable cardiac arrest.


The 5 H's:

(1) hypoxia

(2) hypovolemia

(3) hydrogen ion excess (acidosis)

(4) hypo or hyperkalemia

(5) hypothermia

 

The 5 T's:

(1) toxins

(2) tamponade

(3) tension pneumothorax

(4) thrombosis, pulmonary embolism

(5) thrombosis, coronary
