Description

The Trauma-Specific Frailty Index (TSFI) can be used to identify frailty in an older trauma patient. This is based on the Rockwood questionnaire. The authors are from the University of Arizona, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Texas Southwestern.


Categories:

(1) comorbidities (items 1 to 3)

(2) impairment in activities of daily living (items 4 to 8)

(3) health attitudes (items 9 to 13)

(4) sexual function (item 14)

(5) nutrition (item 15)

 

Parameters:

(1) history of cancer

(2) coronary heart disease

(3) dementia

(4) need help with grooming

(5) need help with managing money

(6) need help doing household work

(7) need help toileting

(8) need help walking

(9) feel less useful

(10) feel sad

(11) feel that it takes an effort to do everthing

(12) falls

(13) feels lonely

(14) sexually active

(15) serum albumin in g/dL as a surrogate for nutrition

Interpretation:

• minimum total score: 0

• maximum total score: 15

• minimum frailty index: 0

• maximum frailty index: 1

• A frailty index > 0.27 (corresponds to a score > 3.0) indicates frailty.
