Description

A homeless person may have problems with transportation. This needs to be taken into account when making appointments for health care or other services.


 

Types of transportation available to a homeless person:

(1) own vehicle (car, van, motorcycle or truck)

(2) car of a friend or relative

(3) public transportation (bus, subway, other)

(4) walking

(5) hitchhiking

(6) bicycle

(7) taxi

 

Traveling may very in difficulty (easy, somewhat difficult, other) when the person is:

(1) healthy

(2) ill

(3) if there is an emergency

 

Factors affecting transportation:

(1) distance involved

(2) weather

(3) total cost (gas, parking, ticket)

(4) paranoia or other mental illness

(5) intoxication

(6) sensory impairment (eyesight, hearing and other senses)

(7) physical impairment

(8) holidays or events (when public transportation may have a different schedule)

(9) natural or social disaster

 

A homeless person who needs to receive healthcare may be able to come if they are given some form of assistance (bus tokens, etc) but there is a risk that the person may try to sell this.
