The Toxicological Significance Score (TSS) helps in the risk assessment of new psychoactive substances (NPS), particularly synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists (SCRAs).
Patient selection: death of a person who has used a psychoactive substance
Contribution to Death
TSS Designation
contributory role (low)
1
probable role (medium)
2
likely cause of death (high)
3
lack of sufficient data
U
If the role of the drug is indirect, then an "i" is appended.
Criteria for a TSS of 3:
(1) no competitive cause is seen
(2) the hypothesized mechanism of death is in line with the most frequently reported toxicity of the substance
