Description

Lambda Cyhalothrin exposure (LCH) is a relatively safe insecticide, but it can be toxic after a large exposure.


Lambda-cyhalothrin is a fourth-generation, Type II synthetic pyrethroid. It prolongs the duration of opening of sodium channels in neurons. Adverse effects primarily relate to neurotoxicity.

 

Toxicity can occur:

(1) agricultural accident

(2) industrial or transportation accident

(3) suicide attempt

 

Adverse effects may range from:

(1) minor skin sensory effects with itching and burning in exposed skin

(2) paresthesias

(3) nose or throat irritation with sneezing or coughing

(4) systemic symptoms including coma and death.

 

Monitoring:

(1) measurements of metabolites in serum and urine

(2) peripheral nerve conduction

(3) visual or auditory evoked potentials
