Description

Hsu et al developed a group of prognostic scores for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. One variable was the total tumor volume (TTV). The authors are from National Yang-Ming University and Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan.

Patient selection: adult with hepatocellular carcinoma

The  total tumor volume (TTV) in cubic cm is based on summation of all tumor nodule volumes.

The assumption is that each tumor nodule is roughly spherical in shape. An ellipsoid shape might be possible but would increase complexity.

volume for each nodule = volume of sphere =

= 4/3 * PI() * ((diameter in cm)^3) / 8

total volume for all tumor volumes =

= SUM(volumes for each individual nodule)
