Description

The presence of extra testes is rare. It may be first detected if there is torsion of the testis.

Clinical features:

(1) one or more extra testes

(2) torsion of an extra testis

Triorchidism refers to the presence of 3 testes (1 extra)

The extra testis may be resected:

(1) if there has been poor perfusion

(2) if there is concern about malignant transformation)

Some surgeons perform orchiopexy on all remaining testes to prevent future torsion.
