Description

A patient with Marfan's syndrome is at increased risk for aneurysm and dissection of the thoracic aorta. Pre-emptive surgical repair can be considered when certain clinical features are present.


Parameters:

(1) diameter of the aorta in cm

(2) risk factors for aneurysm dissection

 

Risk factors for progression of the thoracic aortic aneurysm:

(1) family history of dissection

(2) dilation rate > 3-5 mm per year

(3) severe aortic regurgitation

(4) desired pregnancy
