Description

A person who is not identified (John or Jane Doe) can be a problem for a healthcare provider or the police.


 

People at risk:

(1) unconscious

(2) unrecognizable due to injuries

(3) inability to communicate (incoherent, foreign language, infant, stroke etc)

(4) unwillingness to communicate

(5) victim during a disaster (when a social system may be overwhelmed)

 

Problems:

(1) inability to contract friends or relatives

(2) lack of essential medical information

(3) inability to discharge effectively

 

A person may be identified by:

(1) facial features (celebrity status, prominence in the community, etc)

(2) distinguishing characteristics

(3) identity card or other information on the person

(4) fingerprints

(5) biometrics

(6) genetics

(7) reports of missing persons

(8) sufficient recovery to identify self
