Description

The Rancho Los Amigos Cognitive Scale is consists of 8 levels covering the spectrum of cognitive functioning following severe head injury. This can be used to monitor the progress of a patient over time. The scale was developed at the Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in California (www.rancho.org).


 

The scale ranges from I (severely impaired) to VIII (normal).

 

A patient is classified based on:

(1) responsive to stimuli

(2) learning and functioning

(3) self care

(4) problems
