Description

The Quality of Life after Myocardial Infarction (QLMI) instrument can be used to measure quality of life in a patient who has had an acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The instrument identifies those problems that are most frequent or important to patients. The authors are from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.


 

The instrument consists of 26 items occurring during the last 2 weeks. Responses are shown based on different colored cards.

 

Blue card: 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25

Yellow card: 3, 5, 26

Pink card: 18, 21

Gray card: 7

• The values for the gray card did not have a slot for "somewhat satisfied", with the next 3 items moved up 1 slot, and the final entry "none of the time". This doesn't make sense to me, so I took the liberty of modifying the card.

• minimum restriction subscore: 4

• minimum confidence subscore: 5

• maximum confidence subscore: 35

• minimum self-esteem subscore: 6

• maximum self-esteem subscore: 42

• minimum emotion subscore: 6

• maximum emotion subscore: 42

 

Performance:

• The instrument was found to be reliable and responsive.

• It correlates with other measures in quality of life, anxiety and depression.
