Description

Harris used the personal dependency questionnaire to survey the population of Kensington and Chelsea in London for physical impairment.


 

The instrument asks the person about difficulty in performing 9 activities of daily living.

 

Items 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 are scored 0 (no difficulty) to 3 (unable to do).

 

Items 2, 6 and 8 are scored 0 (no difficulty) to 6 (unable to do)

 

total score =

= SUM(points for all 9 questions)

 

Interpretation:

• minimum total score: 0

• maximum total score: 36

• The higher the score, the greater the expressed disablement.

 

Bebbington evaluated the questionnaire using different scoring methods, including a Guttman scale.
