Description

The Patient Enablement Instrument (PEI) is an instrument for measuring a patient's sense of enablement associated with primary care. Enablement is a measure of primary care outcome that is related to general satisfaction but which has some differences. The score can be monitored over time.

The patient is asked about

(1) ability to cope with life

(2) understanding illness

(3) ability to cope with illness

(4) ability to keep healthy

(5) confidence about health

(6) ability to help self.

There are 4 levels of responses scored from 2 points (good) to 0 (deficient).

PEI =

= SUM(points for all 6 questions)

Interpretation:

• minimal score: 0

• maximal score: 12

• The higher the score, the greater the sense of enablement.
