The Ophthalmic Medications for Tolerability (COMTOL) checklist questionnaire can be used to evaluate the nature and frequency of adverse effects during the use of an ophthalmic medication. This can be very useful in comparing different medications. The questionnaire is administered before use to give a baseline level, and then can be administered during and at the end of use.
Domains:
(1) frequency of side effects: 5, with 15 items
(2) bothersomeness of side effects: 5, with 15 items (mirror frequency domains)
(3) limitations on activities: 3, with 7 items
In addition, there are 4 global questions concerning how the person's quality of life has been affected, compliance and satisfaction with medication use.
