Khamis and Roche developed a method for predicting a child's adult height based on gender, age, height, weight and midparental height. It does not require the child's skeletal age. The authors are from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
Patient selection: White (Caucasian) pediatric patient from 4 to 17.5 years
Parameters:
(1) gender
(2) height in inches
(3) weight in pounds
(4) midparent stature in inches (presumably the average of the mother and father)
predicted height in inches =
= ((age factor) * (age in years)) + ((height factor) * (height in inches)) + ((weight factor) * (weight in pounds)) + ((midparental height factor) * (midparental height in inches)) + (beta coefficient)
NOTE: The data below comes from the corrected tables, which differ from the original data by having 1 fewer zeroes after the decimal point for the weight factor (for example, current -0.087235 was originally -0.0087235). However, using the data from the example on page 507 gives a much lower number than expected prediction for adult height.
