The Hacettepe Score can be used to predict the risk of death in a patient with perforated peptic ulcer disease. This can identify patients who may benefit from more aggressive therapy. The authors are from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey.
Parameters:
(1) comorbid disease
(2) acute renal failure
(3) leukocytosis
(4) gender of the patient

= SUM(points for 4 parameters) + 9.46
Interpretation:
• minimum score: -19.91
• maximum score: 12.16

< 7.9 |
more likely to die |
>= 7.9 |
more likely to survive |
NOTE: Looking at the different score combinations, the presence of any one of the first 3 parameters (comorbid condition, acute renal failure, leukocytosis) is sufficient to put the patient in the poor prognosis category. The gender appears to be irrelevant.
Performance:
• The test was slightly more sensitive than the Mannheim Peritonitis Index but less specific, giving it an overall accuracy of 93%.
