Description

The Conicity (or "C") Index indicates how much a person resembles a "double cone", i.e., two cones placed base to base. It allows direct comparison of abdominal adiposity between individual patients. The authors are from Pennsylvania State University and Wageningen University in The Netherlands.

conicity index =

= (abdominal girth in meters) / (0.109 * SQRT((weight in kilograms) / (height in meters)))

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 1.00, which indicates a perfect cylinder

• maximum score: 1.73, which indicates a perfect double cone
