Description

The Combined Peritonitis Score (CPS) combines both the Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI) and the Peritonitis Index of Altona II (PIA II) to predict mortality in patients with peritonitis. The authors are from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey.

combined peritonitis score =

= (0.3 * MPI) – (1.2 * (PIA II)) – 9

Interpretation:

• minimum score: < -3

• maximum score: > 3

• A high score is associated with high mortality.

where:

• There is an overlap between groups if the score = 0.

Performance:

• The area of the ROC curve, sharpness and proportion of correct outcome predictions were all higher using the CPS as compared to using either the MPI or PIA II alone.

• The CPS showed the best correlation with observed mortality in the study population.
