Gibson et al described the Angiographic Perfusion Score (APS) for evaluating patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing a percutaneous coronary intervention. This can help identify patients who may require more aggressive therapy and monitoring. The authors are from the TIMI Study Group.
Parameters:
(1) TIMI Flow Grade (discussed in 07.33.01, above)
(2) TIMI Myocardial Perfusion Grade (next section, similar to 07.33.05)
angiographic perfusion score =
= (TIMI flow grade before PCI) + (TIMI myocardial perfusion grade before PCI) + (TIMI flow grade after PCI) + (TIMI myocardial perfusion grade after PCI)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 12
• The higher the score the better the blood flow in the coronary arteries and the smaller the infarct.
