Description

The Amphetamine Withdrawal Questionnaire (AWQ) can be used to evaluate a person experiencing amphetamine withdrawal. The study was done at Chiang Mai University in Thailand.


 

Items in the Amphetamine Withdrawal Questionnaire:

(1) drug craving

(2) dysphoric mood

(3) loss of interest or pleasure

(4) anxiety

(5) slowing in movement

(6) agitation

(7) decreased energy or fatigue

(8) increased appetite or eating too much

(9) vivid or unpleasant dreams

(10) craving for sleep or sleeping too much

 

where:

• Insomnia was an item included in the initial questionnaire but not included in the final format.

• Many of these symptoms seem to reflect depression.

• The items were based on features of amphetamine withdrawal in the DSM-IV.

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 40

• The higher the score, the more intense the withdrawal.
