Description

Vallipakorn et al developed a score for evaluating pediatric patients suffering trauma. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Child Safety Promotion and Injury Prevention Research Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

Patient selection: pediatric trauma patient in Thailand

Outcome: mortality

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) airway

(3) physical mechanism

(4) head and neck injury

(5) thoracic injury

(6) abdomen-pelvis injury

(7) Glasgow coma score (GCS)

(8) pulse rate

(9) respiratory rate

(10) systolic blood pressure

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 15.16

• The higher the score the greater the risk of mortality.
