Description

Traumatic injury to the testis can be graded using the testis injury scale.

Injury

Extent

Grade

contusion or hematoma

I

laceration of tunica albuguinea

subclinical

II

with < 50% parenchymal loss

III

with >= 50% tissue loss

IV

avulsion

V

total destruction

V

If bilateral injuries are present, then the final grade is increased by 1 up to Grade V.

where:

• I cannot see how a bilateral testicular injury could be Grade VI, so I assume the highest grade affected is Grade IV (going to Grade V).
