Description

Clomiphene citrate is given to induce ovulation in infertile women with reduced ovulation.Whether or not clomiphene is a teratogen is a subject of controversy, with conflicting reports.


Reported mutations include:

(1) neural tube defects

(2) hypospadias

 

The timing of the exposure relative to the gestational age may explain some of the discrepancies. The risk appears to be associated with exposure just before or during the first trimester.
