Description

Wood et al reported a score for evaluating a patient with a Total Anterior Circulation Stroke (TACS). The authors are from the University of Aberdeen, Norfolk and Norwich University, the University of Cambridge and the University of East Anglia.

TACS is a mneumonic for both the diagnosis and the parameters of the score.

Parameters:

(1) type of stroke (T)

(2) territory (T) and impact on lateralization

(3) age in years (A)

(4) CHF (C)

(5) prestroke functional status (S) as determined by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 6

• The higher the TACS score the gerater the mortality.
