Lieberman et al reported a TACO risk score for identifying a patient at risk for transfusion-associated circulatory overload. The authors are from the University Health Network of Toronto, the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, Sunnybrook Health System Center Toronto and the Canadian Blood Services in Ottawa.
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) congestive heart failure (CHF) - based on history of CHF, daily diuretic use and/or LVEF < 60% on echocardiography
(3) renal dysfunction (based on serum creatinine, GFR and/or dialysis)

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 3
• The higher the score the greater the risk for TACO.
