Description

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) may be associated with Sjogren's syndrome.


Patient selection: systemic lupus erythematosus

 

Clinical presentation:

(1) keratoconjunctivitis sicca

(2) xerostomia

(3) variable swelling of salivary glands

(4) chronic inflammation of salivary and/or lacrimal glands

(5) presence of clinical and serological markers of SLE

 

The onset of sicca symptoms may

(1) precede the onset of the systemic SLE

(2) after many years with clinical SLE
