Description

A number of symptoms may be associated with Whiplash Associated Disorder (WAD).


Patient selection: whiplash injury

 

Symptoms:

(1) headaches

(2) abnormal/tingling sensation

(3) dizziness

(4) tinnitus

(5) problems with vision

(6) memory/concentration problems

(7) neck pain

(8) back pain

(9) arm pain

(10) shoulder pain

 

Interpretation:

• The presence of 6 or more symptoms has an odds ratio of 2.9 for persistent neck pain.

• The patient should be examined for neurological signs and symptoms as well as for palpable tenderness.
