Description

Leakage of jet fuel from an underground storage tank can contaminate drinking water for surrounding communities.


Contaminated water may smell like gasoline, taste abnormal or have an oily sheen.

 

Signs and symptoms may include:

(1) eye irritation or burning

(2) nausea and vomiting

(3) diarrhea

(4) headache

(5) dizziness or lightheadedness

(6) seizure

(7) fainting

(8) confusion or difficulty concentrating

(9) chest tightness or pain

(10) wheezing

(11) difficulty breathing

(12) "burning" lungs

(13) coughing

(14) skin rash or irritation

(15) agitation or irritability

(16) anxiety or depression

(17) burning nose or throat

(18) runny nose

 

Symptoms improve with a switch to an alternative water source.

 

Some symptoms may last longer than 30 days after stopping the exposure.
