Description

Simonsson et al reported the SWEDEHEART score for predicting major in-hospital bleeding after an acute myocardial infarction. This can help to identify a patient at risk for major hemorrhage. The authors are from Karolinska Institute, Uppsala University, Linkoping University and the University of Leeds.

Patient selection: in-hospital, acute myocardial infarction, post-PCI or CABG

Outcome: fatal or intracranial bleeding, bleeding requiring transfusion or surgery

Parameters:

(1) hemoglobin in g/L and sex

(2) age in years

(3) serum CRP in mg/L

(4) serum creatinine in µmol/L

total score =

= SUM(points for all 4 parameters)

Interpretation:

minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 17.5

The higher the score the greater the risk of major bleeding.
