Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis (EV) is a rare inherited skin condition with a susceptibility to certain strains of human papillomavirus (HPV). These skin verrucae are at increased risk for progressing to a carcinoma.
HPV types associated with EV: 5, 8, 14d plus 10 others
Typical skin lesions: flat reddish-brown macules and pinkish-red plane papules
Locations for skin lesions: face, neck, torso
Cancers tend to develop in sun-exposed skin as the person gets older.
Types of cancer:
(1) Bowen's disease (squamous cell carcinoma in situ)
(2) squamous cell carcinoma
(3) sebaceous cell carcinoma
(4) Merkel cell carcinoma
