Description

SUNCT (Shortlasting Unilateral Neuralgiform Headache with Conjunctival Injection and Tearing) syndrome is a rare disorder with recurrent episodes with headaches and autonomic dysfunction.


 

Features of the typical episode:

(1) unilateral headaches that are shortlasting (less than 30 seconds) and neuralgiform

(2) conjunctival injection and tearing on the same side as the headache

(3) other signs of autonomic dysfunction on the affected side (such as tearing and rhinorrhea and/or forehead sweating) which may be subtle

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) post-traumatic headache

(2) trigeminal neuralgia

(3) chronic paroxysmal hemicrania
