The Standardization of Uveitis Nomenclature (SUN) Working Group reported criteria for the diagnosis of the Multiple Evanescent White Drop Syndrome (MEWDS).
MEWDS is classified as a posterior uveitis.
Criteria for MEWDS - all of the following:
(1) multifocal chorioretinal gray-what spots with foveal granularity
(2) characteristic fluorescein angiogram or optical coherence tomogram (OCT)
(3) absent to mild inflammation in the anterior chamber
(4) absent to mild inflammation in the vitreous
(5) exclusion of syphilis and sarcoidosis
(6) absence of bilateral simultaneous disease onset
Imaging findings (angiogram or tomogram):
(1) "wreath-like" hyperfluorescent lesions on fluorescein angiogram
(2) hyper-reflective lesions on OCT extending from the retinal pigment epithelium into and/or through the ellipsoid zone into the outer nuclear layer of the retina
