Description

The Standardization of Uveitis Nomenclature (SUN) Working Group has reported criteria for the diagnosis of syphilitic uveitis.


Criteria for syphilitic uveitis - all of the following

(1) uveitis

(2) one of the following

(2a) anterior uveitis

(2b) intermediate or anterior-intermediate uveitis

(2c) posterior uveitis or panuveitis with placoid inflammation of the retinal pigment epithelium, multifocal inflammation of the retinal pigment epithelium, necrotizing retinitis or retinal vasculitis

(3) objective evidence of infection with Treponema pallidum

(4) absence of a history of adequate treatment for syphilitic uveitis
