The Standardization of Uveitis Nomenclature (SUN) Working Group reported criteria for the diagnosis of sympathetic ophthalmopathia.
Criteria - all of the following:
(1) history of unilateral trauma or surgery
(2) ocular inflammation - one of the following:
(2a) bilateral
(2b) injured eye cannot be assessed AND inflammation in noninjured eye
(3) more than isolated anterior uveitis - one or both of the following
(3a) anterior chamber and vitreous inflammation
(3b) panuveitis with choroidal involvement
(4) exclusion of syphilis and sarcoidosis
