Description

The Standardization of Uveitis Nomenclature (SUN) Working Group reported criteria for Acute Posterior Multifocal Placoid Pigment Epitheliopathy (APMPPE).


APMPPE is a posterior uveitis with lesions at the level of the retinal pigment epithelium and choroid.

 

Criteria for APMPPE - all of the following:

(1) paucifocal or multifocal choroidal lesions

(2) lesions appear plaque-like or placoid appearance

(3) characteristic fluorescein angiogram in the acute phase

(4) negative for syphilis and sarcoidosis

 

On fluorescein angiography the lesions are hypofluorescent early and hyperfluorescent late.
