Anorexia nervosa may be classified based on different perspectives. Other people view as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are separate disorders that may crossover.


Strategies used to classify anorexia:

(2) personality

(3) parental emotional engagement

Personality types (Lavender et al; Wildes et al):

(2) overregulated (compulsive; low stimulus seeking; perfectionism)

(3) low psychopathology

 

Personality types (Gazzillo et al):

(1) high-functioning perfectionist

(2) overcontrolled/constricted

(3) emotionally dysregulated

 

Combining these views would give:

(1) overcontrolled and overregulated

(1a) high-functioning perfectionist

(2) emotionally dysregulated or underregulated

(3) low psychopathology
