Subclinical rejection refers to a slowly progressing rejection that is asymptomatic yet destructive to the transplanted organ.
Patient selection: transplant recipient
Clinical features:
(1) absence of significant clinical symptoms
(2) deterioration in function of the transplanted organ over time if untreated
(3) evidence of chronic inflammation in a biopsy from the transplanted organ taken shortly after the transplant, with later fibrosis
(4) reduced graft survival
