Description

Mousa et al correlated the severity of subclavian stenosis by atherosclerosis with the peak flow velocity on duplex ultrasonography. The authors are from West Virginia University.

Exam: duplex ultrasonography of the subclavian vein

Radiographic stenosis was determined by the NASCET style ratio in imaging studies.

Measurement: peak systolic velocity in cm per second

A peak flow > 280 cm per second was predictive of stenosis > 50% (sensitivity 74%, specificity 95%).

A peak flow > 240 cm per second was predictive of stenosis > 70% (sensitivity 91%, specificity 81%).
