Description

Debris may be sent flying due to a number of mechanisms. This can cause injury in any worker within range

Causes of flying debris:

(1) blasting

(2) explosion (gas, liquid, etc)

(3) demolition

(4) overpressure in a pressure vessel (boiler, air compressor, etc)

(5) tire explosion

(6) high winds

(7) catastrophic equipment failure (wire cable, etc)

Prevention:

(1) Keep the worksite free of debris.

(2) Wear PPE, especially covering the eyes and face.

(3) Maintain equipment properly.

(4) Do not exceed pressure limits on pressurized equipment.

(5) Place blast barriers around potentially hazardous situations.

(6) Evacuate workers near hazardous conditions such as blasting.

(7) Monitor the worksite for potentially hazardous conditions.
