Description

Prieto et al developed the Stoma-QOL questionniare for evaluating the quality of life for a patient with a colostomy or ileostomy stoma. The authors are from the University of Copenhagen, Coloplast A/S and Spain.


Domains:

(1) sleep

(2) sexual activity

(3) relations to family and close friends

(4) social relations other than family and friends

 

Items:

(1) anxious when pouch full

(2) worry that pouch will loosen

(3) need to know where the nearest toilet is

(4) worry that pouch smells

(5) worry about noises from the stoma

(6) need to rest during the day

(7) stoma pouch limits choice of clothes

(8) feel tired during the day

(9) stoma sexually unattractive

(10) sleep badly during the night

(11) worry about pouch rustling

(12) feel embarrassed about body

(13) staying away from home overnight is difficult

(14) difficult to hide that a pouch is being worn

(15) worry that condition is a burden for family and close friends

(16) avoid close physical contact with friends

(17) stoma makes being with other people difficult

(18) afraid of meeting new people

(19) feel lonely even when with other people

(20) worry that family feels awkward
