Description

Tractor rollover is a leading cause of farming injury in the United States. Most serious injuries and fatalities can be prevented.

Steps to prevent tractor rollover injury:

(1) Install a rollover protection structure (ROPS).

(2) If the tractor has a ROPS, wear a seat belt. If the tractor does not have a ROPS, then do not wear a seat belt.

(3) Do not carry passengers.

(4) Avoid driving over or near ditches, holes and embankments.

(5) Avoid driving across steep slopes.

(6) Reduce driving speed when (a) turning, especially on muddy or slick surfaces and (b) crossing a slope.

(7) Do not drive a tractor while intoxicated or taking sedating medication.

(8) Keep a low center of gravity. Add front or rear wheel weights to counterbalance loads.

(9) Dual rear tires on each side can add lateral stability.

(10) Be careful when packing a bunker silo.

(11) When using a front end loader keep the bucket as low as possible, raising the bucket only when absolutely necessary.
