Description

Use of a grain auger can result in serious injury and death if safety measures are not strictly adhered to.

Guidelines for using a grain auger:

(1) Wear close-fitting clothes. Avoid loose clothes that might get caught in the rotating parts.

(2) Safety shields and guards should be placed to reduce the chance of getting caught in the moving parts.

(3) Children should be kept away from the auger at all times.

(4) The operator should be familiar with operation of the auger, especially how to handle it in an emergency.

(5) The auger should be kept in good mechanical working order.

(6) Care should be exercised while moving or positioning the auger to avoid electric power lines.

(7) Care should be taken when raising the auger. It should not be raised too high and no one should be underneath it as it is raised into position.
