Description

Hucke et al reported the STATE score for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This can help to decide what management strategy may be best for the patient. The authors are from AKH & Medical University of Vienna, LKH & Medical University of Innsbruck and the Medical University of Vienna in Austria.

STATE is an acronym for Selection of TrAnsarterial chemoembolization TrEatment with TransArterial ChemoEmbolization referred to as TACE.

Patient selection: intermediate stage HCC (Child-Pugh A or B cirrhosis, asymptomatic, large or multifocal, without macrovascular invasion or extrahepatic metastases)

Parameters:

STATE score =

= (serum albumin) + (points for up to seven) + (points for CRP)
