Parameters:

(1) distant metastases

(2) resection

(3) volume

(4) hormone levels after surgery

(5) tumor spillage during surgery

Findings

Stage

distant metastases

IV

inoperable tumor OR gross residual tumor after resection

III

all of the following:

(1) tumor volume <= 200 cubic cm

(2) tumor completely excised at surgery

(3) normal hormone levels after surgery

(4) no tumor spillage during surgery

(5) no metastases

I

all other combinations

II

where:

• If the tumor is a sphere, 200 cubic cm approximates a diameter of 7.25 cm.

• In Table 3, Stage I has a tumor size of < 200 cubic cm and Stage II has a tumor size > 200 cubic cm. I made a tumor = 200 cubic cm as Stage I.
